Letter on wet/dry issue: We don’t need more alcohol

-A A +A

I just wanted to send out one more plea to the Christians in this county. Be God’s soldiers and stand up for the right to protect our children and grandchildren from seeing and being able to buy alcohol in our stores as they grow up. If we turn our backs on this we will answer for it. If we all stand together and vote “No,” everyone, even if you don’t go to church, you can be against it. Don’t vote “Yes” just because someone asks you to.
As for alcohol making a living and Christmas, tobacco made my Christmas and put food on the table, but I am not for it either. It bothers me to even breathe secondhand smoke.
It also bothers me to see someone drink, as I did my former family member in an eye doctor’s office. It broke my heart, and my granddaughter’s who is six months pregnant. She was so upset it worries me about her baby. I don’t want this in Owen County. We were in Lexington.
The Bible says money is the root of all evil if we use it for the wrong things. The United States has fallen away from God more and more. Our small part of it needs to keep our moral values for our Lord and Savior before money that would hurt us much and not help anyone. If I do my part, I won’t have to feel guilty, but my heart would hurt for Owen County if I hurt this much. How much does Jesus hurt when we use stuff that can make people be drunk, kill each other, have wrecks and abuse each other and their kids. If it’s there, people will buy it more.
