Letter to the editor: Owen County Adult Learning Center staff made getting GED a wonderful experience

I would like to tell you about my experience with the Owen County Adult Learning Center and its staff.

First, let me start off by saying that I dropped out of high school back in 1995. Needless to say, when I came into the center this past February, I was nowhere near prepared to take the GED test.

I took the pre-test, had it explained to me where I placed, what actions to take next, and to come back on Tuesday to start classes.

I was apprehensive that a class setting would work for me, but when I came in I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Ms. Liz and Ms. Veronica were very welcoming to me and proved to be very good teachers. Their teaching styles make it easy to learn. They show a lot of patience and will find the best way for each individual student to understand the work.

Ms. Liz and Ms. Veronica helped boost my self-confidence by giving me the encouragement in class that I needed. It is because of them that I was ready to take my GED test in May. I will also say that I indeed passed my GED test.

I am now a full-time student in college working toward earning my bachelor’s degree in nursing.

I will forever be grateful to Ms. Liz and Ms. Veronica for everything they have taught me.
