Letter to the editor: NRA endorsement claim is misleading

-A A +A

Shame on you Wanda Crupper Hammons:
I am a resident of Owen County and a registered voter, I am rather disturbed about information I found and believe the residents of Owen Country should know. The signs Wanda Crupper Hammons, (who is running for the state representative position for District 61) are not only misleading but also an outright blatant untruth. In an open forum in Grant County, she claimed, she was the only candidate endorsed by the NRA. She does not in fact have the endorsement of the NRA (in the general election) and in fact neither candidate holds an endorsement. Having obtained a letter sent to both Brain Linder and Mrs. Hammons, it clearly states they both have received an AQ rating and the NRA would not be endorsing in this race. I also visited the NRA web site to make certain my facts were  true. Both received an AQ rating, this rating is given to potential policy makers who fill out the NRA’s questionnaire. They are graded by their answers because they have not demonstrated a voting record pertaining to guns, gun control and hunting. The AQ grade is the highest grade they give a potential law maker.
It is easy to learn these facts, go to the NRA web site and look them up. You will find candidates listed by district: www.nrapvf.org/grades-endorsements/2012/kentucky.aspx
If a candidate is not going to be honest when the facts are readily available for all to see, how honest will they be if they get to Frankfort?
I urge everyone to be diligent in vetting candidates in this election. Our future depends on those we send to the White House and Frankfort. I will not be voting for Mrs. Hammons in this election but Brain Linder.

Editor’s note: Crupper Hammons did receive the NRA’s endorsement in the Democratic primary in May.
