Letter to the editor: Hunger doesn’t end with school year

-A A +A

We would like to give a big thank you to the community for their support of the Caring Hearts Power Pack Program for the2011-2012 school year.  The program was a success with approximately 375 students receiving food for the weekends.  The program is run entirely on donations and grants, and we are blessed to say that it was fully funded this past year.  Without your support this would not have been possible, Thank you.
As we plan for the next school year, please don’t forget the Power Pack Program. Our mission is to meet the needs of students in grades Pre-K through 12th grade by providing them with nutritious easy to prepare food to take home on weekends and school vacations when other resources are not available. Families who receive Power Packs can pick up their food bags at Meeting the Needs Ministry  at 3356 Georgetown Road Owenton, Ky., 40358 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer.
We are also accepting food and monetary donations for the 2012-2013 school year.  If you would like to donate food, please call 502-484-4017.
Monetary donations can be mailed to: Youth Services Center, PO Box 459, Owenton, K., 40359.
Checks should be made to Meeting the Needs, with “Power Packs” in the memo line and 100 percent of all donations will go to purchase food for children in Owen County.
We hope you will continue supporting the program in the coming year.
