Letter to the editor: Help make a girl’s prom dream come true through Cinderella Closet

-A A +A
By The Staff

It may be hard to think past Christmas, but before we know it prom season will be here.

Some students think about it the whole school year, planning what they will wear, who might ask them to go, and looking forward to that rite of passage.

Others dread thinking about prom because they know that a fancy dress or tux is a luxury that their family cannot afford.

Cinderella’s Closet was started with these students in mind.  The organization provides an opportunity for girls to have a beautiful prom dress, shoes, and jewelry, when they might not otherwise be able to have it.  Their mission is to turn dresses into dreams.

Each girl is treated like a princess, with custom alterations, and even make-up advice.

Some of our students here in Owen County participate at the Northern Kentucky and Frankfort locations.

Cinderella’s Closet is able to continue this service because of donations of gently used dresses and accessories.  The Owen County Youth Services Center is now an official donation site.

We are accepting dresses in excellent condition, along with formal shoes, purses, and jewelry.

These dresses will go to help make prom special for a young woman.

If you would like to donate, please contact Becky Mefford or Julie Riddle at 484-3531, or you can bring the items to the Youth Services Center at Owen County High School.

Pamida has been generously giving to help our community.  A recent donation of $1,000 was made to Meeting the Needs ministry in Owenton.  We would like to say thank you to Pamida for their efforts to help the citizens of Owen County.
