Owen countians face an interesting choice on the ballot this November in the race for their congressional representative. There are several pertinent facts they need to consider. First, there is no incumbent since the Republican Geoff Davis resigned so suddenly and mysteriously from his seat. Second, this race has seen a huge influx of outside influence, in the form of money from a Texas millionaire (through inheritance) and college student, John Ramsey and his Liberty For All PAC. The money went solely to support one fringe candidate in the Republican primary.
Another interesting fact: Since his primary win in May, that Republican candidate backed by Texas money has dodged and ducked nearly every public appearance he has been invited to attend especially debates. The opportunity for voters in this district to ascertain his views and positions have been extremely limited.
On the other hand, we have a local candidate from Grant County, Bill Adkins, who has been open to all invitations to meet with his prospective constituents and to debate his opponent. And to state his positions loudly and clearly for the record. He has traveled extensively throughout our district to make himself available to the voters and to answer their questions.
We have met Bill Adkins and like him. He is intelligent, well versed in the issues and open to the ideas of others. He stands in strong support for maintain Medicare and Social Security for today and for future generations. He stands for restoring those curbs on Wall Street that would have prevented the economic collapse of 2008. He supports affordable health care for all Americans. He believes the middle class is the backbone of this country and that every possible effort should be made to build it back and that the wealthiest among us need to pay their fair share in the process.
Bill Adkins will make a strong, pragmatic advocate for Owen County citizens in Congress. He is willing to work with members across the aisle to find real solutions to the problems our country now faces and to end the bitter partisan gridlock that characterizes Congress today.
We urge you to reject outside influence in this election. We urge you to reject rigid ideologies. We urge you to vote for Kentucky’s needs and future instead. We urge you to join us and vote for Bill Adkins on Nov. 6.
