The Owen County High School Lady Rebels soccer team only played one game last week and they made the most of it.
The Owen County played its first road game of the season Aug. 28 as they traveled to Carrollton to take on the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Rebels won both meetings between the two schools last year by a combined score of 7-1. They would not miss a beat this year as they got two second-half goals from Hailey Chappell to get their first win of 2013 by the final score of 2-0.
Autumn Gover recorded the shutout in goal and Amber Gover added an assist. The win improves Owen County to 1-2 on the season.
Owen County High School Head Girls Soccer Coach Derrick Clemons hopes the win will get his team on a roll.
“It was very important,” Clemons said. “This being a district game and our first road game of the season, it was huge for our confidence.”
Clemons said the team will need that confidence as they begin defense of the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic on Thursday night against Gallatin County at Patterson Field.
The game is schedule to begin at 8 p.m.
The championship game will be played on Saturday at Walton-Verona.
