By Brian Blair

The Owen County Lady Rebels opened the 2009 season March 23 as the team hosted Western Hills.

The Lady Wolverines used a pair of pitchers to hold Owen County to just one hit in a 5-0 defeat.

Lauren Lowe’s single in the bottom of the seventh was Owen County’s only hit of the game.

Western Hills got single runs in the second and fourth and then added three more in the sixth to break the game open.

The Lady Rebels hit the road March 24 as they headed to Warsaw to take on district foe Gallatin County.

Katelyn Sutherland held the Lady Wildcats to four hits and Sarah Bihl had an RBI single in the fourth inning to propel Owen County to the 1-0 win.

The Lady Wildcats twice had runners reach third base but were unable to get a big hit to drive them in.

Sutherland was able to get a big strikeout in the bottom of the third inning to get out of a bases-loaded jam.

The game ended when Sydney Bowen struck out and Alex Morris was thrown out trying to steal third.

After taking a day off, the team headed to Carrollton for a game with the Lady Panthers Thursday.

Carroll County committed five errors, which led to five runs as the Lady Rebels won, 5-1.

The game was scoreless until the fourth when Samantha Toole scored on Lyndsey Slayback’s single. The Lady Rebels put three more runs on the board in the fifth. All three runs came without the benefit of a hit as Carroll County committed three errors in the inning.

The Lady Panthers’ only run came in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Owen County’s last run came in the sixth inning when Brittany Tuggle drove home Courtney Waldrop with a base hit.

Katelyn Sutherand picked up the win on the mound as she allowed the Lady Panthers only five hits in the game.

The team was back in action last night as they hosted Henry County. They will host Simon Kenton tonight and Gallatin County Thursday night before playing in the Edwardo’s Spring Break Bash at Harrison County over the weekend.
