-A A +A

The Lady Rebels had to feel good about their chances Jan. 21 at Beechwood. Owen County had won its last three games against teams from the ninth region.
This contest wouldn’t  be an exception.
Owen County traveled north Jan. 21 and returned to Owenton with a hard fought 58-54 win over Beechwood.
Hannah Neeley had a big night as she poured in 22 points to lead the Lady Rebels to their fourth-straight win over a ninth region opponent. All four wins have come away from Owenton.
The Lady Rebels defeated Cooper and Newport Catholic in 2011 and Ludlow in 2007. Their last loss to a team from the ninth region was in December of 2006 when they dropped a 47-35 decision to Ludlow.
Courtney Waldrop finished the night with 11 points and eight rebounds.
After missing the Franklin County game due to illness, Kennedi Dermon returned to score 8 points while Shelby Gambrell added 6. Madison Reed pitched in 5 points; Madison Gamble, 4; and Julie Spaulding, 2 points.
The team was scheduled to travel to Carroll County on Friday night but the game was postponed due to bad weather. The two teams will get together Thursday night to make up the game.
On Saturday the Lady Rebels got back to work against an eighth-region opponent.
South Oldham came to town for a matinee affair. Owen County struggled to get things flowing on the offensive end of the floor and would fall 58-46 to the Lady Dragons.
Neeley would finish with 14 points while Waldrop tossed in 12. Reed scored 8 points while Dermon grabbed 6 points, Gamble four and Gambrell two. The loss dropped Owen County to 14-5 on the season.
The Lady Rebels were back on the floor Monday night as they traveled to Collins.
They will travel to Carroll County Thursday night before hosting Oldham County Friday.
Owen County will once again be away from home on Feb. 4 as they travel to Georgetown to take on Scott County.
The game with the Lady Cardinals will be the first between the two former district rivals since March 3, 2005 when Scott County defeated Owen County in the 32nd District tournament. The Lady Rebels last defeated the Lady Cardinals on Jan. 10, 2000. Owen County won that contest 52-45 at home.
The once eighth-region powerhouse, Scott County is now a member of the 11th region. The Lady Rebels are 1-1 against the 11th region this season.
Owen County has split a pair of contests with Franklin County.
