Lady Rebels close out tough regular season

The regular season wrapped up for the Owen County Lady Rebels. The team played three games last week to prepare for the 31st District Tournament.
The girls began the week by hitting the road to taken on Walton-Verona High School on Feb. 17.
The Lady Bearcats raced out to an 18-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back as they cruised to the 65-20 win.
A.J. Gravely led the Lady Rebels by scoring 9 points. Kaylee Miller tossed in 4; Molly Gamble, 3; and Debbie Farrar and Kendrah Ashby each finished with 2 points.
On Feb. 19,  the team welcomed North Oldham High School to Owenton.
Owen County would play one of its best games of the season but would fall just short as they lost 50-43.
Gravely finished the night with 16 points to lead the Lady Rebels. Morgan Ellis added 12 points while Destinee Epperson finished with 7. Macie Osborne tossed in 5 while Miller added 1.
The Lady Rebels closed out the regular season at home on Friday night as they took on Grant County High School. The game would be the final home game for Gravely, the team’s lone senior.
Owen County jumped out to a 5-0 lead to begin the game.
Grant County would respond and take a 15-11 lead after one quarter.
The Lady Braves would take control of the game in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Rebels 20-8 to take a 35-19 lead at halftime.
They would hang on to the lead and win 60-42.
In her final home game, Gravely finished with 15 points. Ellis scored 12; Epperson, 6; and Ashby, 4. Destiny Young and Madeline Shelton each finished with 2 points while Miller tossed in 1 point.
Owen County began play in the 31st District Tournament on Monday night at Carroll County against Eminence. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.
The winner advanced to the semifinals last night against the top seed Gallatin County.
The championship game will be on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
