The Owen County Lady Rebels are 3-0 to start the season. It is the first time since 2012 the team has begun by winning their first three games.
The Lady Rebels opened the season last Monday on the road at Eminence. Behind 25 points and 12 rebounds from Alex Clifton, the team rolled to a 63-38 win over the Lady Warriors. It is the third straight season Owen County has opened the season against Eminence and won.
Molly Gamble chipped in with 17 points and six rebounds while Haley Young added eight points and Destiny Young five points.
Owen County played their home opener on Thursday night against Williamstown. The Lady Demons began their season by knocking off Gallatin County 50-41. They would not be as fortunate on Thursday as the Lady Rebels pulled away in the second half to win 65-50. Owen County led by five at the half before outscoring Williamstown 20-11 in the third quarter.
Clifton once again led the Lady Rebels with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Morgan Ellis finished the night with 16 points while Gamble added 13 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Lexie Moore tossed in five points and Macie Osborne added three points.
The team wrapped up the week with a contest on Friday night at Collins. This game would not be decided until the closing seconds.
After a lackluster second quarter, the Lady Rebels trailed 34-21 at halftime. Whatever, head coach Bob Osborne said during the break worked as Owen County came out in the third quarter and began a comeback. Their hard work would pay off when, with 13-seconds left in the game, Ellis drained a pair of free throws to give the Lady Rebels a 56-55 win.
Ellis would lead the team in scoring with 19 points making seven of eight shots in the game. Gamble finished with 13 points and six rebounds while Destiny Young tossed in 11 points and Clifton nine points. Osborne had two points. Baleigh Young finished with two points and six assists.
The Lady Rebels will be back on the court on Friday night at home against Carroll County before traveling to play at Bellevue on Monday night.
