On Feb. 15, Michelle Alcorn’s fifth-grade class at Maurice Bowling Middle School received a visit from Owen County Sheriff’s Deputy Brent Caldwell and Owenton Police Officer Gary Alcorn. The two assisted Michelle Alcorn in explaining how the Bill of Rights applies to the sheriff’s department and the city police department. A PowerPoint presentation was shown and discussed with students and officers added to the lesson by elaborating on freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, search and seizure and rights of the accused.
