We were thrilled to see 130 parents and children attend our last summer reading session with Nelstone Stone Carving. With a little help from Penny and Al, we completed four new limestone stepping stones for our landscaping that were made by members of our community.

They look great, and every time we see them, we’ll remember what a great day we had at the library with all of the program participants. The stones are currently on display at the front desk, so take a look as you check out your favorite books, movies or CDs.

If you missed out on your chance to put a hammer to chisel, or if you simply just want one more chance to wear those fun glasses, we want to invite you back to the library Aug. 4 to work with Nelstone Stone Carving again.

This time we invite the entire community to help us create a carved bench that will be placed at the front entrance of the library, right on Main Street.

Penny and Al will be set up in our meeting room starting at 10 a.m. and we’ll invite you to stop by and work on a section of the bench until 3 p.m.

The featured design depicts a large tree growing from a book, which will form the seat. This is a beautiful symbol of what your library offers, a solid base from which you can learn and grow. We know back to school time can be busy, but we hope you’ll make time before the Back to School Bash to stop by the library and contribute your own hand to creating community art.

We will continue to offer summer reading programs until the end of July, so we invite you to check the library’s calendar of events on our Web site, www.owencountylibrary.org. We want to thank Ohio Valley United Charities for sponsoring our summer reading programs and enabling us to offer you great quality experiences to share with your families.
