Illness forces delay of Lewis, O’Banion trial

The trial of Owen County Judge-Executive Billy O’Banion and Owen County Treasurer Gayla Lewis has been postponed. 

Commonwealth Attorney Jim Crawford said the delay is because Lewis’ lawyer, Mike Judy, has been ill. 

The trial has been moved to Tuesday and a pre-trial hearing has been set for today at 3 p.m. 

Crawford said they will discuss how to proceed with the trial if Judy’s illness continues. 

O’Banion is charged with theft by unlawful taking, two counts of official misconduct and theft of services. 

Lewis is charged with complicity to theft by unlawful taking and two counts of official misconduct. 

Former Owen County Deputy-Judge Executive Renaee Gaines has pleaded guilty to the charges of theft by unlawful taking, two counts of complicity to theft by unlawful taking and official misconduct.
