The boys had been waiting all season for this moment and Saturday, it finally happened.

The Rebels hosted the Owen County Invitational Saturday. The team was still looking for its first win of the season. The Rebels had lost a tough match last week to Grant County. The Braves led 1-0 for most of the game before scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes to get the 3-0 win.

Saturday’s tournament began with Gallatin County taking on Walton-Verona. The Wildcats advanced to the championship game with a 3-2 win over the Bearcats.

In the second game of the day, the Rebels played host to Fleming County. The Rebels dominated the game as they advanced to take on Gallatin County with a 5-0 victory.

In the championship game, Owen County got the better of the Wildcats as they won 3-2 to claim the title. Walton-Verona defeated Fleming County to win the consolation game.

“(The Rebels) played really well,” Owen County Scoccer Coach Jerry Doolin said. “We are getting better.”

James Marston was named most valuable player after scoring four goals and contributing two assists Saturday. Blake Lewis was named to the all-tournament team after he scored three goals and dished out two assists. Jared Fitzgerald, Austin Patterson and Justin Davis were also named to the all-tournament team.

Ryan Marston also had a goal on the day.

The Rebels were back on the field Tuesday at Simon Kenton. They will take part in the Cardinal Cup Saturday at Scott County.
