KySTE to present top award to Owen countian

Naomi Cornette, director of technology and chief information officer for Owen County schools, was recently honored as the recipient of the prestigious outstanding leader award for 2011 by the Kentucky Society for Technology in Education.
Cornette received this top honor and is being recognized for her outstanding achievement in promoting the use and implementation of technology to improve education. The KySTE Award, which recognizes an individual’s distinguished and outstanding achievement in the area of technology, will be presented to Cornette today in Louisville at the state conference.
Cornette is credited with bringing new technological opportunities to the district, including access to wireless networks, integration of mobile technologies and instructional support for teachers.  With her strong vision for the future, Cornette has made a major contribution to the district’s understanding and ability to make 21st century technological skills and equipment accessible to the Owen County School System.
“At a time when fiscal resources can be challenging, Mrs. Cornette has continued to be a champion for expanding our technological resources, creating a sound infrastructure and helping to ensure Owen County schools are ready for the future. This award recognizes her for that exemplary work in the field of technology. She is truly passionate about what she does and her dedication does not go unnoticed,” Owen County School District Superintendent David Raleigh said.
“I speak for our faculty and staff in congratulating Naomi for receiving such an esteemed award. Her work, along with the work of our fine technology staff, is truly making a difference in the lives of our staff and students,” Raleigh said. “Mrs. Cornette will be considered for ISTE’s Outstanding Leader Award, where she will compete for international recognition from a pool of candidates from around the world. We wish Naomi the very best of luck in representing herself, her family, friends and Owen County schools.”
For the past 10 years, Cornette has served as chief information officer for Owen County schools and is in her 28th year of service in this combination of Kentucky schools.
She is married to her high school sweetheart, Ray Cornette. They have one son, Chris, who is currently a senior at Eastern Kentucky University.
