The 2009 Owen County High School Senior Class will be performing a play production of the smash movie Disney’s “High School Musical.”

At the beginning of this school year, Owen County drama teacher and director Lee Ann Gamm wasn’t sure if her senior drama class could pull off such a huge production.

One Sunday afternoon, she and 11 of her students drove 10 hours, round trip, to see the play performed in North Canton, Ohio.

After viewing the play and considering the huge amount of talent she had in the drama class, she decided the seniors could handle this much acting, singing, and dancing.

Gamm said not only will the public be entertained by this talented group of students, but theatergoers will also be a witness to history.

This will be the last senior class play performed at the high school. Next year, the acting/performance class will consist of juniors and seniors, which will officially put an end to the over 50-year tradition of only seniors being in the big play of the year.

The performances will be in the Owen County High School Auditorium. The times and dates are Friday at 7 p.m.; Saturday; at 8 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m.; May 15 at 7 p.m.; and May 17 at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $8. Doors open 30 minutes before each show.
