March 21 through 27, 2010, marks the 12th anniversary of Commonwealth Cleanup Week. Commonwealth Cleanup Week is an annual week-long event implemented by the Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC), and it also kicks off the Great American Cleanup, spanning from March-May. Its purpose is to provide Kentucky communities an opportunity to “spring clean,” recycle and promote personal responsibility across the Commonwealth.
It is my pleasure to announce Owen County will observe Commonwealth Cleanup Week March 22 through March 27. During this time, the Transfer Station will receive unwanted items free of charge all week in a manner similar to free Saturdays at the end of each month and serve as the kickoff of our litter abatement program.
As a previous participant in the littler abatement program, you are invited to join us for the 2010 events. This year’s program will consist of three cycles, the first will run March 22 through April 30, the second June 21 through July 17, and the last Sept. 12 through Oct. 9. Please call Greg Smoot, Solid Waste Coordinator, at (502) 484-2427 to schedule your pickup.
Thank you for your support of this program which is vital for the beautification of Owen County.
