Despite the break Owen County is getting from the heat, the area remains under a water shortage watch issued by the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet last week.
According to a press release from the energy and environment cabinet, a water shortage watch is issued when drought conditions have the potential to threaten the normal availability of drinking water supply sources.
According to the release, residents should increase their awareness of the current drought situation and prepare to make adjustments to their water use.
