1 John 5:2 says, “This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.”
Notice the word of God tells us to first of all love God and also carry out his commands. During the summer months of 2010, the Baptist churches in Owen County surely showed their love for God and his children; and by doing this they also followed his commands. Almost 100 percent of the Baptist churches collected school supplies for the Owen County Schools.
The contributions consisted of 2,000 pencils, 500 highlighters, over 200 packages of loose-leaf paper, 30 boxes of crayons, 36 bags of Sharpie markers, over 250 boxes of colored pencils, 2,000 erasers, 108 three-ring binders, 500 rulers, 1,000 bags, around 400 glue sticks, over 100 folders, around 100 dry-erase markers, 20 some odd packages of construction paper, 25 boxes of assorted sizes of zip-lock bags, plus donations consisting of approximately $590.
Needless to say, the response to our schools from our loving churches was overwhelming. Thank you for your contributions. This was an exciting and uplifting meeting when Dallasburg Baptist Church opened its doors to be the distribution center for the items in their wonderful new fellowship hall facility. Your hospitality will not be forgotten.
And on this wonderful evening, the excitement didn’t end there. The food was great and the youth shared in song and testimony.
Owenton First Baptist wowed us with two great songs sung by Andrea Wash, Lita Swigert, Julie Spaulding (joining the group from Green-up Fork) and Cory Cobb.
Also, some very talented kids from Dallasburg sung and signed two pieces of music from their VBS. They were led by a very mission-minded lady, Anita Wainscot.
The night didn’t end there; Morgan Walker gave a heartfelt testimony and also shared about her trip soon to take place to Africa. Thank you to all the youth and children who showed us so well your love for the Lord.
So, food, fellowship, ministry, and worship took place at the annual Baptist WMU Associational Meeting in July. The joy of being a Christian on a night like that cannot be contained.
