Girls finish fifth at region

The Owen County High School girls had a good day at the Region 5A Track Meet in Danville. Four members of the team qualified for the KHSAA State Cross County Meet.
Paula Rivera won the discus title after finishing second last year. She also placed second in the shot put after a ninth place finish in 2013.
Rivera and the rest of the 4x100-meter relay team of Andi Burford, Haley Hatchett and Nicki Jacobs finished second. All four girls will be heading to the University of Kentucky on May 24 for the KHSAA State Cross County Meet.
As a team, the Lady Rebels finished fifth. Burgin won the regional title.
In other events, Hatchett finished 10th in the 100-meter dash.
Veronica Chisholm was 11th and Sarah Wilhoite finished 13th in the 200-meter dash.
Mikala Byers finished 11th in the 400-meter dash while Samantha Tamplin was seventh and Autumn Hunter 10th in the 800-meter.
Hunter also finished seventh in the 1600-meter run.
Jacobs was seventh and Audrey Hager ninth in the 100-meter hurdles.
In the 300-meter hurdles, it was Jacobs, third, and Hagar, eighth.
In the other relays, Chisholm, Whilhoite, Burford and Emily Bibb placed fourth in the 4x200-meter relay while Burford, Jacobs, Hunter, and Byers were sixth in the 4x400-meter relay. Bibb, Byers, Tamplin and Hunter were third in the 4x800-meter relay.
In the field events, Hatchett was third in the shot put and Wilhoite fourth in the discus. Chisholm finished eighth in the long jump while Hagar was 10th in the triple jump.
