Owen County High track teams off and running

The Owen County track teams began their season last week. They took part in the Carroll County All-Comers, the GOPW Gold Medal Meet at Grant County and the Glacier Invitational at Bracken County.
There were many highlights from the week.
For the girls at Carroll County, it was Andi Wash finishing second in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. Kalynn Workman placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles. Danielle Hoop had a nice meet in Carrollton as she won both the 400- and 800-meter dash and placed second in the high jump. Wash finished third in the same event while Haley Decandia placed fourth. Shayla Lainhart took home seventh in the shot put.
At Grant County, it was a pair of Ashleys running well in the 100 and 200-meter dash. Ashley Byers finished second in the 100-meter and Ashley Williams finished third in the 200-meter. Workman placed second in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. Rachel Dauwe finished third in the 300-meter hurdles. Kelsey Johnson finished fifth in the discus while Jessica Wilhoite finished fifth in the long jump and Lainhart fifth in the shot put. Decandia won the high jump with Hoop finishing third.
On Saturday at Bracken County, it was Williams placing fifth in the 100-meter dash and Byers third in the 200-meter dash. Workman finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles. Hoop captured both the 400- and 800-meter dash. Johnson placed fourth in discus. Decandia and Hoop finished second and third in the high jump while Jessica Wilhoite placed sixth in the long jump. The 4x400-meter relay Team came in second as did the 4x800-meter relay team.
The boys also had some nice performances last week.
At Carroll County, it was Collin Trammel placing second in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Darian Polley placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with Taz Adams finishing fourth and Dakota Pence sixth. Bobby Mingie finished second in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the triple jump. Daniel Cummins placed first in discus and second in the shot put. Trammel placed second in the high jump. Darian Polley finished third in the high jump.
At Grant County, Paul Banks won the 100-meter dash with Trammel finishing second. Chris Smith placed third in the 200-meter dash. Cummins finished first in discus and second in the shot put. Mingie finished fourth in the long jump. The 4x200-meter relay team finished first.
Again on Saturday at Bracken County, it was Banks winning the 100-meter dash. Trammel finished second in the 200-meter dash. Mingie placed second in the 300-meter hurdles. Cummins placed second and third in discus and shot put. Trammel won the high jump. Smith and Polley finished second and third in the triple jump. Both the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams finished first.
The teams will close out March with a meet Friday at Carroll County and Saturday at Henry County.
