Getting his stripes

It is not often a basketball referee is cheered. Most of the time it is quite the opposite.
Friday night in Owenton, one official got cheers and even a few hugs.
Owen County native Robert ‘Buck’ Beverly officiated basketball in the Eighth Region for 10 years. When a health condition forced him to hang up his whistle and pick up a clipboard, he gladly accepted. Now instead of blowing his whistle on the court, he sits in the stands and evaluates those who make the calls on it.
