While the varsity teams decide district superiority this week at Gallatin County, it is clear who reigns supreme when it comes to the freshman and junior varsity teams. The Owen County Lady Rebels won both championships.
The freshman team brought home the 31st District trophy by defeating Carroll County in the semifinals and Gallatin County in the finals.
Against the home team Lady Panthers, the Lady Rebels were led by Madison Gamble’s 14 points as they won the game 32-21.
Katelyn Sutherland and Kennedi Dermon added five points each while Shelby Gambrell tossed in four points. Julie Spaulding had two points.
In the championship game, Owen County never trailed, defeating Gallatin County 38-26. The Lady Rebels put two players in double figures as Sutherland finished with 12 points and Dermon added 11 points. Gamble and Gambrell each had six points while Spaulding finished with three.
Other members of the freshman team include Allison Dempsey, Ashton Marcum, Aly Minch and Lindsey Grubb.
For the junior varsity team, they went into the tournament as the defending champs. The girls were able to defend their title as they knocked off Gallatin County in the first game and Carroll County in the championship game.
Against Gallatin County, Courtney Waldrop led Owen County with 11 points while Christina Johnson added 10 as the Lady Rebels won 31-25. Mariah Fitzgerald had seven points.
In the championship game, Owen County came back to defeat Carroll County 31-22. Fitzgerald led the team with 10 points while Hannah Neeley chipped in eight. Waldrop finished with six points.
The junior varsity girls finished the season with just one loss.
The other members of the junior varsity team include Katelyn Sutherland, Madison Gamble, Julie Spaulding, Aly Minch and Meredith Marston.
