Owen County senior Danielle Hoop heads back to state for another shot at title

By Brian Blair

Danielle Hoop has one more race to run. The senior runner will be taking part in the Class A State Cross County Meet Saturday in Lexington. Hoop qualified for the meet by finishing in fourth place at the regional meet last week at Trimble County.

She will be taking some momentum from the Trimble meet into the statewide competition.

“I ran a 19:50 and that is the fastest I have ever run on Trimble County’s course,” Hoop said.

The race featured the last two runners to win the Class A State Championship. Maddox Peterson from Sayre won last year and Kaitlin Snapp of Danville High School won in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Peterson won the qualifying race with Snapp finishing second. Ann Eason from Sayre finished third.

For Hoop, Saturday’s appearance at the Horse Park in Lexington will be her sixth trip to the state cross-county meet. She has finished second three times. “This weekend is the big challenge. It’ll be all of us from Region 5 that will be out in front,” Hoop said. “It is just a matter of who has the better race.”
