The Fifth Annual Walk for Awareness of CHDs will be held Saturday,from noon until 7 p.m. at the Owenton First Baptist Church Family Life Center.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by the following groups:
Opening by Jerry Smith – Adult CHDer
Noon – 1 p.m.: Bode McKinley
1 - 1:45 p.m.: David Pitt
1:45 – 2 p.m.: Capitol City Dance Studio
2-3 p.m.: First Baptist Church of Carrollton Praise Band
3-3:30 p.m.: CHD survivors and Angels Recognition Walk/Jan Eldridge and Heather Marsh
3:30-4 p.m.: Connie Hon
4:00-4:15 p.m.: Testimony by Kendall Conley – heart transplant recipient
4:15-5 p.m.: Stand Strong Strength Team
5-6 p.m.: The Least of These: Dallasburg Baptist Church Praise Band
6-7 p.m.: Unveiled by Epoch Church
There will be vendors set-up donating a portion of their proceeds to the walk. This year, there will be a Mary Kay, Usborne Book, Pampered Chef, Premier Designs, Tastefully Simple, Thirty-One Gifts, Tupperware, Silpada Jewelry, Send Out Cards, and Scentsy consultants available along with Purse Heaven from Carrollton and Stitches ‘n Stuff from Corinth. Kim Hearne of Glencoe and Dawn Perkins of Lexington will also be selling some quilted and embroidered items
There will be several opportunities for individuals to support the walk this year.
The Owen County Primary and Elementary Schools, along with the Bowling Middle School, will be participating in the “Change for CHD’s” fund drive again this year from when they return to school from the snow.
Students from the primary, elementary and middle achool will be asked to bring in their loose change during the drive. There will be a class from each school that will win a pizza party donated by Snappy Pizza in Owenton.
Several businesses in Owen and Carroll County have also agreed to sell hearts to their patrons for $1.
If you purchase one or more of these hearts your name will go on them and they will be placed inside the business to show that you supported the Walk for Awareness of CHDs.
If your business has not yet been contacted on selling the hearts and you are interested in participating, please contact Katie at 463-2450 and hearts will be delivered to you.
Donations for the Walk will be accepted through the month of February. If you are interested in donating, selling the hearts in your business, or in forming a team to participate in the Walk, please contact Katie Columbia at 463-2450, Meg Fitzgerald at 463-9936 or Kenda Franks at 484-0659.
The Walk is open to the public. You do not have to be on a team to come and enjoy the entertainment, food, and help us raise awareness of congenital heart defects. The Walk is sponsored by God’s Special Little Hearts and the Owen County Extension Homemakers and benefits the Kentucky Children’s Hospital/Cardiology Division at the University of Kentucky and God’s Special Little Hearts to help the families that are affected by CHDs.
