With temperatures feeling more like September and less like the final weekend in July, Owen County sports fans can take heart that the fall sports season is coming.
Practice has begun for the fall sports seasons. The football, volleyball, golf, cross country and soccer teams are getting ready for the 2013 campaigns. With practice comes expectations of another successful season for each team.
The football team will be looking for a third-straight winning season and another trip to the playoffs.
The girls’ soccer team have its sights set on a second straight 31st District title while the boys are hoping to get back to the 31st District championship game. Both teams won the Eighth Region All ‘A’ title last year as well.
The volleyball team will try and improve on a 17 win season from a year ago and a first-round loss in the 31st District tournament.
Both the boys and the girls had outstanding years on the golf course in 2012.
The girls captured the Sixth Region championship while both the boys and the girls won the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Championship.
The cross country teams will be hoping to build on their successes of the last year as well.
The Maurice Bowling Middle School football team will also be looking to have another outstanding season while the school will field a volleyball team for the first time.
Each season will be getting started in the next several weeks.
