Fair time: Annual Owen County Fair and Horse Show kicks off Saturday

With changes in store for this year’s Owen County 4-H Fair & Horse Show, members of the Owen County fair board are looking forward to a week full of summertime fun.
This year’s fair will kickoff Saturday with several of the week’s beauty pageants.
Pageants will begin at 10 a.m. with the baby pageants; the miss teen and miss preteen at 3 p.m. and the Miss Owen County Fair at 6 p.m.
A walking horse show will also be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
The gate fee for Saturday will be $5.
The countywide worship service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Kevin R. Malcomb.
The Little Prince and Princess pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the Little Miss and Mister at 7 p.m., July 14. The Mother of the Year and Owen Countian of the Year will be awarded between the two pageants.
A miniature and saddlebred horse show will also be held on July 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Family Fun Night will be held on July 15, with activities beginning at 6 p.m.
This year’s activities include a stick horse race contest, children’s pedal tractor pull, water bucket relay, family obstacle relay and a greased pig competition.
New events for this year’s Family Fun Night include a “we lookalike contest” and “generations,” where the family with the most generations will be recognized as “The Fair Family” and awarded with a trophy.
Staff members from the Owen County Public Library will also be on hand with crafts and other small activities.
Admission to the fair for July 14 and 15 will be $8. Admission will be $10 July 16-19.
Events throughout the rest of the week include a variety of 4-H and FFA animal shows, including the 4-H Small Animal Show at 4 p.m. July 16; the 4-H/FFA beef show at 6 p.m. July 17 and the 4-H/FFA Sheep Show at 4:30 p.m., July 18.
Motorcross will be held at 7 p.m., July 16; the demo derby at 7:30 p.m., July 18 and the KTPA Truck/Tractor Pull at 7 p.m., July 19.
