Evelyn Riley Brock, 96, passed away on June 27, 2012, at her residence in Wheatley, surrounded by her family.
Evelyn was born Sept. 26, 1915 in Owen County to Robert Bryon and Emma A. Riley.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, H.T., S.B. and R.V. Riley; four sisters, Aileen Lanter, Thelma Rieper, Emily Riley and Bernice Riley; and her husband, Oren Bradford Brock.
Evelyn and Bradford moved to DeLand, Fla., her mother’s hometown, in 1940 where she raised a family of four.
Evelyn attended Eastern State in Kentucky and Stetson University and worked for J.C.Penneys for 27 years. She was well known for her pies and cakes and for making draperies for many DeLand residents.
Evelyn was also active in Eastern Star, past worthy matron and was a pianist for many years, having played all around Florida. She was also a member of the Association of Widowed Persons, Pythion Sisters, Rainbow Girls and enjoyed playing in the local kitchen band.
Evelyn is survived by her four children: Ruth Kalk (John) of Danville, Barbara Wittman (Waymon) of Naperville, Ill., James (Bucky) Brock (Penny) of DeLand, Fla. and Sharon Suter (Kenny) of Wheatley; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be private. Cremation has been chosen by the family.
The family requests any memorial donations to Blue Grass Hospice Service, Lexington, Ky. or to Volusia County Hospice in DeLand, Fla.
Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton is in charge of the arrangements.
