The Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal collision that killed two people and injured one Friday.
According to a press release, troopers responded at 6:02 p.m. to 11465 of US Highway 127 near Monterey after receiving information that two vehicles had been involved in a serious injury collision.
The first vehicle, driven by 54 year-old Larry C. Conway, of Frankfort, apparently crossed the centerline of US 127 and collided with an oncoming vehicle operated by 46 year old Daniel S. Ballard, of Owenton, police said in a statement.
Conway and Ballard both died resulting from injuries sustained in the crash. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.
Daniel Ballard’s wife Kimberly, 52, who was a passenger in her husband’s vehicle, was taken to New Horizons hospital in Owenton. She was wearing a seat belt.
Owen County Sheriff Zemer Hammond said Conway was living with his half-brother in Monterey and was likely on his way to his half-brother’s residence.
Hammond said KSP Post 12 Frankfort had received a call to watch for the truck driven by Conway, which the caller said had went across the line several times.
Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the collision, Hammond said.
“They think the cause of the wreck was probably a stroke or something,” Hammond said. “We don’t think there was any alcohol involved, but we really won’t know till the blood test comes back.”
KSP Trooper Dusty Corbin, a collision reconstructionist, leads the ongoing investigation.
Corbin was assisted at the scene by Owen Co. Life, Owen County Rescue, Owen County Sherriff’s department, Monterey Fire department, and the Owen County Coroner.
