The Owen County Fiscal Court held a special meeting April 30 to approve two new employees for the county road department.

Randy Fitzgerald and Travis Wainscott were hired to fill the vacancies left by Mark King and Welborne Grey.

The vacancies were advertised during the winter, and Road Supervisor and Solid Waste Coordinator Greg Smoot interviewed applicants.

The fiscal court must approve all county employee appointments.

The fiscal court held a second budget workshop April 29. Court members discussed the county road department budget. The road department will keep the same number of employees as last year and no major changes with the budget are expected.

The budget will receive its first hearing May 12.
