Free family movie ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ to be shown Thursday at library
Bring the entire gang to one of Disney’s favorite family movie adventures, “Gnomeo and Juliet,” rated PG. This free movie will be shown at 5:30 p.m. May 26 at the Owen County Public Library. All ages are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.

Church will give free food Friday
First Christian Church will host a free-food giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon May 27 at the church. The event is open to any Owen County resident who has a need. To reserve a voucher for free food, call 484-3451 or (502) 750-3342 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. May 23-24.

May 27 ride honors cancer survivor
A motorcycle ride from Frankfort to the Owen County Relay for Life event Friday to honor Pam Brock, a cancer survivor. Riders are asked to gather at Thornhill Baptist Church on Holmes Street across from Family Dollar in Frankfort at 4:45 p.m. Ride departs at 5:15 p.m. For more information, call Teresa at (502) 750-0953.

Deadline for free GED testing is Friday
To help people prepare for the next test in Owen County the Adult Learning Center is offering a free GED Boot Camp, an intensive two-week, skill-building look at the GED test materials. You must register before May 30.

Election for SBDM council at MBMS is Friday
Voting for parent rep on the middle school’s Site-based Decision-making Council will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the school. All parents of fourth- through seventh-graders are encouraged to vote.

Circuit clerk’s office closed Saturday
The Owen County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be closed Saturday, May 28, due to the holiday weekend.

Open mic for singers/songwriters Saturday
The Wild Goose Cafe will host a singer/songwriter 6-8 p.m. Saturday. If interested in performing, arrive by 5:45 to sign up. Every musician will have time to perform three songs or more, depending on the number of participants. Please come support our local musicians.

County clerk’s office closes for Memorial Day
The Owen County Clerk’s Office will be closed on Saturday, May 28, and Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day.

Post offices closed Monday
All post offices will close for Memorial Day, May 30, and there will be no mail delivery.

Relay team collecting phones, ink cartridges through May
The Dallasburg Baptist Church Relay for Life Team is collecting used phones and ink cartridges through Phoneraiser. Anyone who has a working phone not being used and undamaged or empty ink cartridges can drop them off at the following locations: Save-A-Lot, Hometown Pizza, Owen County Public Library, First Farmers Bank, and the Owen County Baptist Association during May or call Teresa Dye at 463-2539.

Church to host adventure
The Big Apple Adventure will be presented 6-8:45 p.m. June 6-10 at Long Ridge Baptist Church.

Basketball camp is June 7-10
The Owen County Rebels basketball camp will be 9 a.m.-noon June 7-10 for boys and girls entering grades 3 through 8. Forms are available at OCES and MBMS offices. For more information contact Devin Duvall or Bob Osborne.

Prom DVDs are for sale
STEP has produced a DVD of Prom 2011. It includes the Grand March, the coronation, and a slide show of candid pictures from the dance. The cost is $15. Please contact Martha Hamilton at 484-4176 to order a copy.  

2011 yearbook is on sale

Hospice Grief Support Group meets June 12
On June 12, Hospice of the Bluegrass will conduct a support group for those suffering loss of a loved one.

The Owen County High School classes of 1959 and 1960 will hold a reunion June 11 hosted by Ronnie Wainscott at his Corinth farm.

Class of ‘91 reunites June 25
The Owen County High School class of 1991 will have its 20th reunion starting at 5 p.m. June 25 at Elk Creek Vineyards.
Registration is $25 per person and should be sent to Natalie Goodin at 12106 Preakness Ct., Louisville, Ky., 40299.  
Dinner will be served and live music provided.

Epicenter Church of God VBS will be July 24-27
The Epicenter Church of God will have a firefighter-themed vacation Bible school July 24-27 6-8 p.m. each night. Different fire departments will provide demonstrations. Everything is free and the public is welcome.

Hunt club to host charity shoot July 30
The third annual Trooper Island Charity Shoot will be July 30 at Elk Creek Hunt Club in Owenton. European rotation will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Numerous prizes awarded. Registration for sporting clay main event is $65 and for 3D archery shoot is $25.
