District championship shirts are available

The 31st District championship T-shirts are available for sale in the high-school gym from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
The cost is $12.

Library teen advisory group to meet Friday afternoon

The Owen County Public Library Teen Advisory Group will hold a meeting Friday from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
The library is recruiting all teens grades 6-12 to help shape the library around young people’s  interests. The teen advisory group is a group for teens that will plan teen events, suggest new materials and more. Refreshments provided and new members welcome.

Internet basics class to be held at library

An Internet basics class will be held Thursday, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Owen County Public Library.

Library to hold March Madness Teen Book Tourney

Teens. vote for your favorite young adult books as they face off against each other in March Madness.
Each week, there will be a new round of voting and for each round you vote, you will be entered to win a prize.
You can vote in the library or on our Facebook Page throughout the entire month.

New Columbus 4-H to meet March 7

The New Columbus Community 4-H Club will meet in the fellowship hall of the New Columbus Baptist Church on March 7 at 6:30 p.m. Everyone 9 to 19 years interested in 4-H is welcome to come. You do not need to be associated with the Baptist church. We’ll be selecting projects and reviewing plans for the upcoming year.

Owen Co. retired teachers to meet March 12

The Retired Teachers of Owen County will meet at the Smith House Restaurant on March 12 at 2 p.m. for its quarterly meeting.

Owen County youth soccer league to hold 5K

The OCYSL will be having a 5K on March 16 at 8:30 a.m. at the Monterey soccer fields.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers for male and female. There will also be prizes for the top three finishers both male and female in the following age groups: 15 and younger, 16-21, 22-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 60 and older.

Dates set for kindergarten registration

The Owen County School District will hold registration for kindergarten students April 19 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and May 10 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Owen County Primary School.
Children who will turn 5 before Oct. 1, 2013 are eligible to attend kindergarten.

An original birth certificate is required at the time of registration together with a pertinent guardianship and/or custody paper when applicable.
Before a child is placed in a class parents will need to submit the child’s certificate of immunization, physical examination, dental examination and eye examination.
