Arts and crafts sessions are being held 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at the Monterey Community Center.

Owen Democrats to meet Thursday
The Owen County Democratic Party Executive Committee will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Owen County Public Library. The focus of the meeting will be the upcoming election. Sweet Owen Day slated for Saturday
Sweet Owen Day will feature a number of vendors, activities, and entertainment. It starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 9:30 p.m. Sept. 17 in downtown Owenton.

Sweet Owen Day 5K Run/Walk is Saturday
The Sweet Owen 5K (3.1 miles) Fun Run/Walk will be at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 17 at the Owen County Courthouse. Registration forms may be picked up at the News-Herald or the courthouse, or by contacting Anna Cook at (859) 250-0360 or acooklucky7@bellsouth.net.
There will be awards for runners in 10 age groups, corporate teams, and the top five walkers. Corporate teams should pre-register. Individual cost is $15; corporate team of five members is $60. T-shirts included as long as supply lasts. Preregistration guarantees a shirt. Race-day registration is 7-8 a.m.
Cheer-leading is encouraged during the race.

Greenup Fork holds homecoming Sunday
Greenup Fork Baptist Church will be having a homecoming service Sept. 18. The morning worship service will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a potluck meal. The afternoon service will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Cross Tithes will be bringing the special music and Bro. Tom Hall will bring the afternoon message. Everyone is invited to attend and share their talents and memories of Greenup Fork.

Wright, Jones reunion is Sunday
Wright and Jones Reunion will be held Sept. 18 at the Crittenden park in the first building. Bring a covered dish and drinks. Doors open at 10 a.m. We’ll eat at 1 p.m. All friends and family are welcome. Help keep our reunion going.

Election board meets Monday
The Owen County Board of Elections meets at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 for the regular meeting and to inspect the absentee voting machine.

“Amish Cook’ comes to library
Kevin Williams, editor of the syndicated Amish Cook column, will visit the Owen County Public Library at 6 p.m.Tuesday.
Williams is a nationally noted expert on Amish culture and editor of the syndicated column, The Amish Cook, written by Lovina Eicher. The Amish Cook appears weekly in over 120 newspapers from coast to coast, including locally The Cincinnati Enquirer and Falmouth Outlook.
Williams has appeared on programs like “Fox & Friends” and has been profiled as an Amish expert in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. Williams will talk about his experiences with Amish culture and answer questions about Amish cooking and culture from the audience. In addition, copies of the cookbooks he has co-authored with Eicher will be available for purchase.
Williams will answer questions from the audience about any topic relating to Amish cooking or culture including information about Amish weddings, funerals, barn-raisings,and a variety of other areas of interest.

Free Family Movie Night is Sept. 22
Come watch the newly-released Disney movie, “Spooky Buddies,” rated G, at the Owen County Public Library. It’s Halloween and the mysterious mansion across town is the scene of some very spooky action. With the help of some unexpected new friends, join Disney’s irresistible talking puppies as they work together to save the world from Warlock the Magician’s dastardly deeds. Softball tournament to raise money
The Mickey Covey Coed Softball Tournament starts at 6 p.m. Sept. 30 and continues at 9 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Owen County Fairgrounds.
The entry fee is $125 per team, and all money goes to Covey who was recently diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. For more information or to register a team, call Carol Harrison (502) 857-4905 or (502) 480-7061.

OCHS class of 2001 reunites Sept. 30
The high school class of 2001 will have a reunion Sept. 30 at Elk Creek Vineyards. Tickets are $25 if received before Sept. 16.

The Tipton/Bramblett family reunion will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Bagdad Ruritan Building in Bagdad. A potluck meal will begin at noon.

An Owen County alumni party will be held Nov. 19 at Belterra. The cost is $50 per person and includes dinner, dessert and drinks.
