Property owners within the City of Owenton will soon be limited to two yard sales per year following a second reading of an ordinance by the Owenton City Council.
According to the ordinance, each location or property will be limited to two different yard sales per year. The yard sales may not last more than three consecutive days.
Signs advertising yard sales may not be placed on public or private property without consent of the owner. Within 24 hours after the conclusion of a sale, all signs must be removed.
All yard sales will be on the owner’s property and only the property owner or tenant will conduct a yard sale on that property. Multi-family sales will be permitted.
Non-profit organizations and clubs will be exempt from the ordinance. The U.S. 127 Yard Sale is also exempt.
Violators of the ordinance will be deemed a misdemeanor and fined no less than $50 and no more than $250.
The council also voted to extend its existing contract with Rumpke for garbage pickup.
Owenton Mayor Doug West said the contract was extended at the current rates.
