City council agrees to drop fourth-class bid

-A A +A

Dozens turn out to oppose reclassification that could lead to expanded alcohol sales

By Molly Haines

Owenton Mayor Doug West’s decision to trash a bill to make Owenton a fourth-class city was met with applause from approximately 56 people who attended Feb. 7 city council meeting.
The crowd gathered at city hall, many to voice their opposition to the move that some felt would bring alcohol into the city.
West said he called State Rep. Royce Adams, D-Dry Ridge, and told him to trash the bill in the General Assembly.
