Church’s air conditioner stolen

On July 27, someone stole from an Owen County church.
According to Owen County Sheriff’s Deputy Brent Caldwell, someone cut the outside lines to an air-conditioning unit at Mount Zion Baptist Church and hauled the unit off.
Although the working air conditioner itself has considerable value, Caldwell said that’s not what the thief or thieves were seeking.
“They just want to steal them for the copper inside,” Caldwell said.
The deputy said all scrap buyers in the region have been notified about the theft and asked to be on the look out for the unit.
Caldwell said the crime appears to be an isolated incident and no other thefts of this type has been reported.
Although there are no suspects and few leads in the case right now, Caldwell said the suspects are facing a felony charge.
“This is theft by unlawful taking, a class D felony,” Caldwell said
