Caring Hearts Backpack program becomes Power Packs but needs support

-A A +A

We would like to give a big thank-you to the community for its support of the Caring Hearts Backpack Program for the 2010-2011 school year.
The program was a success with approximately 375 students receiving food for the weekends. The program is run entirely on donations and grants, and we are blessed to say that it was fully funded this past year. Without this support from our community, many children would have gone hungry when there was no school breakfast or lunch.
We would like to thank the Build-A-Bear Foundation for its $5,000 donation. Churches that have contributed include Monterey Baptist Church, Pleasant Home Baptist Church, Sparta Christian Church, South Fork Baptist Church, El Bethel Christian Church, Lockport Methodist Church, Old Cedar Baptist Church, Richland Baptist Church, and Owen County WMU.
Other community partners include North Park Pharmacy, First Farmers Bank, Itron, the Smith House, Raisin Factory, Pamida, Kelley Brothers, Owen County Woman’s Club, New Horizons, and numerous individuals.
As we plan for the next school year, we wanted to make the community aware of some changes to the program. We have the opportunity to partner with Feeding America to be able to make all donations go much farther to help children. The name of the program will change to Power Packs in conjunction with the already existing program that Feeding America has. Future donations can be mailed to: Youth Services Center, P.O. Box 459, Owenton, Ky., 40359. Checks should be made to Meeting the Needs, with “Power Packs” in the memo line, and 100 percent of all donations will still go to purchase food for the children of Owen County.
We hope you will continue supporting the program in the coming year.
