Security cameras from a local gas station recently helped Owenton City Police nab an alleged car thief.
Owenton City Policeman Gary Alcorn said police received report of a stolen vehicle on Oct. 17.
Alcorn said the victim, Stacey Westover of Owenton, was visiting a friend on Kelly Court when John Dillion Lusby, 23, went to borrow Westover’s friend’s car.
When the friend wouldn’t allow Lusby to borrow their car, Alcorn said Lusby took off in Westover’s vehicle.
Alcorn said Lubsy was caught on security cameras at a local gas station purchasing gas in the stolen vehicle.
A second subject was seen in the car on security cameras, but Alcorn said the subject has not yet been identified.
A warrant for Lusby’s arrest was served Oct. 21.
“We located the vehicle on Oct. 20 behind some apartments on West Adair Street,” Alcorn said. “We received a tip that it was there. We were able to contact the owner of the vehicle and get her property back to her.”
Lusby is being charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition of property, automobile.
