New Liberty, Jonesville and Owen County firefighters spent Thursday afternoon battling a mobile home fire near Gratz.
New Liberty Fire Chief Greg Davis said they received a call at 12:20 p.m. indicating smoke coming from the mobile home located next to Frankie and Johnny’s restaurant on Hwy. 355.
Davis said the man and woman living in the mobile home were not there at the time, and a passerby called 911 after seeing smoke.
“It was all in the attic,” Davis said. “We opened up the bottom floor and then had to start pulling the ceiling down to get to it. It was fully involved.”
Davis said the mobile home was a total loss and firefighters remained on the scene until 4:59 p.m.
Davis said there was no indication as to how the fire started.
A second fire took place in a mobile home Sunday on Hwy. 22.
Davis said no one was living in the mobile home at the time, and it was also a total loss.
