They are young, but they continue to improve every time they play. Led by a seventh-grader and an eighth-grader, the Owen County Rebels are off to a good start on the 2008 season. The team played a pair of matches last week, earning a split. The week began with a match against Carroll County. The Rebels proved too much for the Panthers as they won the match. Seventh-grader Jarrod Ball shot a 39 while eighth-grader Zach Ripy posted a 41. Thursday saw Walton-Verona come to Fairway Golf Course for a match. While the Bearcats picked up their 10th win of the season against just one loss, Owen County shot its best team score of the season. Ball shot a 42 with Ripy posting a 44 to lead the team. Zach McDonald shot a 44 and Colton New carded a 48. Josh Smith, Jon Locker and Cody Minch each shot their best rounds of the season. According to Coach Kevin Webster, the Rebels have improved their teamscore in each of their five matches. The team was scheduled to play at Gallatin County yesterday. Like the girls, the boys will take part in the NCKC/All “A” Tournament today. The team will then host Gallatin County on Tuesday at either Fairway Golf Course or Perry Park.
