The Owen County baseball team earned its first win of the 2017 season last week.
The Rebels hosted Eminence on Thursday night at Dunavent Field. Austin Fitzgerald scored three runs and drove in another as Owen County knocked off the Warriors 9-3.
Grant McMillen and Nolan Tackett each drove in a pair of runs while Kirby Young and Jordan Willhoite scored twice.
With the win, Owen County has now won 18 straight games over Eminence. The last times the Warriors knocked off the Rebels on the diamond was on April 15, 2004.
The win came on the heels of Owen County’s first loss of the year in the season opener on Tuesday to Carroll County. The Panthers scored three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning to open up a lead. They would hang on and defeat the Rebels 7-3.
Young, Fitzgerald and Josh Spaulding scored the runs for the Rebels while Patrick Osborne had an RBI.
Owen County will hit the field again Thursday when they travel to New Castle to play Henry County. The Rebels will remain on the road Friday when they play at Shelby County. They will take part in the Valley Invitational Tournament next week in Louisville.
