An argument between brothers, quickly transformed into violence Thursday.

According to Owen County Sheriff Zemer Hammond, an argument between Dean and Danny Thornton resulted in one brother in jail and the other in the hospital. Danny told the sheriff that Dean stabbed him in the back. Danny was able to get in his truck and drive a quarter mile to the home of Deputy Sheriff Brent Caldwell.

Caldwell said he heard a knock at the door and a voice called out, “Brent, my brother stabbed me.” He opened the door to find Danny, who was clearly in need of medical help.

“I took one look at the stab wound and immediately called for an ambulance,” he said.

While Danny was being treated by paramedics, Deputy Marty Lilly and the Kentucky State Police went to Dean’s home and arrested him. Dean is charged with assault.

Caldwell said Danny was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, but he has been released and is expected to fully recover from his injuries.
