Another year, another title for Lady Rebels squad

-A A +A

They did it again.
On Aug. 21 at the Fairway Golf Course the Owen County High School Lady Rebels golf team won its fourth-straight Eighth Region All ‘A’ championship.
Owen County dominated the competition by shooting 330 as a team. The closest competitor was Walton-Verona, which shot 467.
Kennedi Dermon won the individual title by firing a 76. Shelby Power finished two strokes back with a 78. Lynsey Farrar shot 87 with Julie Spaulding hitting 89 and Aly Minch carded a 91. Each Owen County player made the All-Tournament Team.
The team score of 330 as a team was the third best team score since 2006.
It appears the team saves its best play for this tournament.
As it turns out, the top four scores since 2006 are from the last four All ‘A’ regional tournaments, all of which the Lady Rebels have won.
The girls will now prepare for the All ‘A’ State Tournament at the Lincoln Homestead Golf Course in Springfield Sept. 8.
Green County won the event last year at Silo Golf Club. Owen County finished sixth. Green County is again expected to be right near the top again this year along with Glasgow and Williamsburg.
Lady Rebel Golf Coach David Wainscott said he is not only excited about returning to the state tournament but also has high hopes for his team.
“We are looking forward to playing in our fourth straight All ‘A’ State Tournament and definitely want to compete for a state title,” Wainscott said.
