Pamida
takes over ownership of Morgan & Thomas
Morgan and
Thomas will see some changes in the coming months. The biggest change
is the owner.
Pamida – based in Nebraska – has bought the pharmacy
and will take over ownership on Feb. 18.
Current owner Todd Toole, who bought the pharmacy on April 15, 2002,
said he had been thinking of selling for some time. He said when
Medicare Part D came about, it was a big blow to independent pharmacies.
For Morgan and Thomas, Toole said it turned 100 percent of their
business to insurance, and Medicare Part D wasn’t paying on
time.

Tax
bills need to be
paid
before sale
The deadline
for property tax payment has come and gone, but homeowners still
have time to pay their tax bill before it is up for sale in April.
Owen County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Clerk Tracy Lucas said
the next payment deadline is Jan. 31. Until this deadline, homeowners
can pay the bill with a 5-percent penalty. After the deadline, she
said the penalty for late payment raises to 21 percent. However,
if the unpaid bill is sold in April, the fees could go even higher.

Roadside
Litter Program
begins
second year
Youth organizations
worked 2,846 hours this past year to keep Owen County roads clean.
Solid Waste Coordinator Dan Logan said the Owen County Roadside
Litter Program was such a success that the fiscal court voted to
continue to fund the $10,000 program for another year.
During a presentation to the fiscal court, Logan said youth or non-profit
organizations will be offered $100 for every mile of highway they
clean. As the weather warms, he will assign stretches of road to
each interested group. He said safety is a primary concern when
he is selecting roads. In particular, he looks for areas with good
visibility and wide shoulders. Interested organizations should contact
Logan at 484-2427 or dwlogan@bellsouth.net.

received that news on Thursday, Jan. 17.
That’s when the family van was spotted overturned and submerged
in Eagle Creek, off of State Hwy. 467 near Sparta, Ky.
