Taser
Training
Owenton Police
have a new tool on their belt: three officers from the department
are now certified to carry tasers.
To be certified, the officers had to attend a training course in
Carrollton. They learned all about the tasers, from how to assemble
them to how the device affects the body. After the three-hour training
course, the officers took a test on what they had learned in the
class, then were asked to demonstrate their knowledge by shooting
at a target with the device.
Officers Tony Stigers, Gary Alcorn and Rufus Shearer Jr. will carry
the weapons.

Board
listens to public
comment
on possible sites for
judicial
center
The Project
Development Board held their monthly meeting on Monday to take public
comments on the proposed sites for the judicial center.
Some who attended the meeting spoke in favor of keeping the building
in the downtown area. Others disagreed.
While no final decision has been made as to where the building will
be located – and won’t for more than a month –
there are two sites currently being considered. The area behind
the existing courthouse, next to the jail is one, and the area between
Sword Lumber and the post office is the other.

New
Liberty cannot assist
other
fire departments
A funding shortage has forced the New Liberty Volunteer Fire Department
to make some hard decisions in the past few weeks.
New Liberty Fire Chief Greg Davis said they will not be able to
assist other departments. In the past, they would respond to calls
and assist departments all over the county and even into nearby
counties. Now, they will only respond to emergencies within the
New Liberty Volunteer Fire Department territory.
