Lady
Rebels split opening week
The Lady Rebels battled back all night. In the end, they needed
two more shots. Grant County defeated Owen County 50-46 last Monday
night in Dry Ridge. It was the opener for both teams.
Owen County was playing the game shorthanded. Senior guard Kendall
Cochran was unable to play in the game due to sickness. Without
Cochran in the lineup, the Lady Rebels struggled early to get
into rhythm. Grant County jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before
Kelsey Williams scored with 3:12 to play in the first quarter
for Owen County’s first basket of the season. The Lady Braves
led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have your face
on the big screen during a professional football game?
One Owen County youngster doesn’t have to imagine. Sawyer
Williams, an eighth-grader at Bowling Middle School, took part
in the NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition last Sunday before
the Bengals hosted the Tennessee Titans.
According to the National Football League, the national competition
is for boys and girls between the ages of 8-15 to compete separately
against their peers. It was established in 1961 and is the oldest
NFL Youth Football program. The NFL estimates that more than four
million young people participate from all over the country.
During the competition that took place on the Bengal’s practice
fields, Williams punted a ball 69 feet and 1 inch. He then threw
a pass 100 feet and 7 inches before kicking a ball off a tee 110
feet and 5 inches. The three scores combined were good enough
for fourth place.
The participants then watched the game and were honored on the
field during halftime.
