Christmas Project has helped area families for years

Visitors to The News-Herald office may have seen the Angel Tree, but may not know what it’s for.
Since 1994, Owen County has participated in a Christmas Project that gives help to underprivileged children. Children’s ages and clothing sizes are listed on laminated cards that area residents can pick up and go shop for. There are also items like art sets and other toys the children want.

Assessing the public health system in Owen County

Owen Countians will soon know how their county scores in providing public health services. An evaluation of Owen County’s public health system, using the National Public Health Performance Standards Program (NPHPSP) will be conducted in January 2008. A public health system is commonly defined as all public, private, and voluntary entities that contribute to the delivery of essential public health services within a community or state. It includes hospitals, community centers, private physicians, businesses, fire and police, health departments, the faith community, parks and recreation, mental health providers, schools and others. Three Rivers District Health Department will lead in conducting the evaluation.

Elijah Walters

Josh Walters and Lillian Perry are proud to announce the birth of their son, Elijah. Arriving at 10:55 p.m. on Aug. 10, 2007, at Frankfort Regional Hospital, he weighed 6 pounds and 15 ounces.
Maternal grandparents are Jerry Vermillion and Bessie Perry of Harmony. Great-grandmother Elizabeth Davis and great-great-grandmother Bessie Reece are both of Richmond. Elijah is also the nephew of Ray Perry of Harmony.
Paternal grandparents are Steve and Cindy Walters. Great-grandmother is Joyce Walters; great-grandparents are Stuart and Barbara Watson, all of Monterey. A special uncle is Jeremey Robinson of Louisville. Elijah is the great-grandson of the late Bill Brown and Cleveland Walters.

Blake Allan Harney

Veronica King and Rodney Harney are proud to announce the birth of their son, Blake Allan Harney, born Aug. 1, 2007. He is the grandson of Bobby and Kim King and great-grandson of Rosie King.

Gabrielle Rose Perry

Alexandria Brooklyn would like to announce the birth of her baby sister, Gabrielle Rose.
She was born on June 22, 2007, in Frankfort. She weighed 6 pounds and 15 ounces. She is the daughter of Andrew and Tiffany Perry of Owenton.
Paternal grandparents are Larry Dale and Teresa Perry of Owenton.
Maternal grandparents are Sharon and Glenn Vaughan of Prestonsburg and Tim Steffey of Allen.
