Cable line shot through near stockyards

By: LAURA HAGAN

A cable line along US 127 South was shot through more than a week ago, leaving homes in the southern part of the county without cable for more than a day.
Kentucky Ridge Country Communications (KRCC) owner Ron Reimer said he received a call that day letting him know there were service issues. In the process of researching the issues, an area of cable was found that had been shot clean through.
Reimer said he had no idea of the caliber of the bullet, nor when exactly the incident happened.
“It could have been late Thursday evening or early Friday morning (Oct.25-26),” Reimer said. “That’s just going by when the calls (began) coming in.”
KRCC technicians had the problem squared away late Saturday night.
The area where the line was shot is just on the south side of the United Producers Inc. stockyards. That area affects cable all the way down through Monterey.
Reimer, who has been in the communication business since 1969, said he’s “never seen anything like it.”
He said judging by the direction the shot was coming from, the bullet could have hit nearby homes.
While he believes the shot may have been from someone shooting at a bird or deer, he also believes the damage could have been intentional.
Reimer has reported the incident to police.
“If we could find out who did it, we would go after (them) for damages,” Reimer said.
While he understands it could have come from someone shooting at an animal from a distance with a high-powered rifle, he said this is not the season for high-powered rifle use.
“Things like this can cause a lot of problems (and) a lot of grief,” he said. “I’d like it to be the only time something like this happens.”
