Rebels capture two of three titles

The Owen County Parks & Recreation competitive football teams traveled to Grant County over the weekend for Super Bowl Sunday.
All three Rebels teams made it to the North Central Kentucky Football League’s Super Bowl for the second year in a row.
The Midget Rebels won their Super Bowl with a big win over previously unbeaten and unscored upon Gallatin County.
The Mighty Pro team dropped their first game in two years with a heartbreaking loss to Gallatin County. The Power House team avenged two regular season losses to the Grant Gold team to take the title. The following is an account of the exciting day’s action.

Earlier in the regular season the Rebels and Wildcats clashed in Warsaw in a meeting of two undefeated teams. The Rebels controlled the game throughout but couldn’t score. The Wildcats scored with fourteen seconds left in the game to gain the 6-0 win.
The young Rebels came to this game fired up and ready to prove they were the better team. The Wildcats came into the game undefeated and had not given up a point the whole season.
The Rebels made a statement on their first possession when Ty Smith, behind two bone-jarring blocks from Logan Harrod and Kirby Young, sprung free down the left sideline for a 52-yard touchdown and a 6-0 Rebels lead.
Later in the first half Smith broke loose again on a 22-yard scamper for his second TD of the day. After a penalty on the conversion set the Rebels back five yards, a beautiful pass play from Smith to Harrod gave the Rebels the conversion and a 13-0 lead. The Rebels carried the 13-0 lead into half-time and for much of the third quarter.
That’s when Young busted up the middle and rambled for 42 yards and the Rebels’ third touchdown of the afternoon. Smith added the conversion to push the Rebels lead, to 20-0. Perhaps relaxing a bit with their big lead the Rebels gave up a quick score to the Wildcats to cut the lead, to 20-6.
On the Rebels next offensive series, while trying to protect their lead and run the clock, the Rebels got another big pass play from Smith to Harrod on a third down and sixteen to get a first down and keep position. The Rebels fumbled late in the fourth quarter and the Wildcats scored to cut their advantage to 20-12. However, the Rebels ran out the clock to gain the Championship.
The Rebels got a monster defensive effort from Young and Harrod who seemed to be in on every play.
The Midget Rebels are: Ty Smith, Kirby Young, Jeremiah Edmondson, Carter Martin, Logan Harrod, Caden Stover, Blake Duncan, Chase Petroff, Dacota Stewart, Austin Brown, Hayden McCowan, Blake Burke, Tyler Fortner, Vincent Hopkins, Grant Smith, and Grant McMillen.

The Rebels and Wildcats traded places from their regular season meeting as the Rebels had beaten the Wildcats by the same 12-7 score a few weeks earlier in Warsaw.
The Wildcats’ workhorse, Chris Brown, staked his team to an early 6-0 lead on his team’s first series. However, the Rebels battled back with a ground-churning attack behind runs by Austin Fitzgerald, Patrick Osborne, and Nolan Tackett. Osborne capped the drive with a blast up the middle for a 32-yard touchdown.
Fitzgerald added the conversion to put the Rebels up 7-6. The Rebels took that 7-6 lead into the half. In the second half Brown broke free again for a long touchdown run to push the Wildcats back into the lead at 12-7.
Despite several nice pass plays from Tackett to Vince Toftness, and strong running from Fitzgerald and Osborne, the Rebels couldn’t get the score they needed to gain the win.
The Rebels’ defense got strong play and big hits all afternoon from Garrett Cobb, Mason Borchers, and Taylor Bell. The group suffered their first loss in twenty games.
The Mighty Pro Rebels are: Shaun Cooper, Austin Fitzgerald, Ross Ford, Chandler Jones, Nolan Tackett, Patrick Osborne, Tyler Hendricks, Damien Hopkins, Vince Toftness, Garrett Cobb, Zach Taylor, Austin Prather, David Gray, Mason Borchers, Ronnie Griffith, Clay Dempsey, Colton Isles, Taylor Bell, Hunter Knight, Josh Spaulding, and Trenton Dalton.

Grant Gold 0
After coming off the most impressive game of their season last week in the play-off win over Grant Blue, the Rebels posted another gem of a performance.
The Rebels dropped both of their regular season games with the Gold team by the same 6-0 score. They lost once in overtime and once on a score in the fourth quarter. With the title on the line, the Rebels turned-the-tables on the Braves.
Logan Lowe started the game off well for the Rebels with a big run deep into Braves’ territory. The Braves dug in and kept the Rebels out of the end-zone on downs.
However, the Rebels dug in on defense as well and forced a Braves’ punt. Brady Young took the short punt and raced down the right sideline for a 32-yard touchdown to give the Rebels what proved to be the winning score, and a 6-0 lead. Behind their swarming defense the Rebels carried the 6-0 lead to the half. In the second half it was much of the same, both teams battling for good field position.
The Rebels’ defense refused to give up a big play to the Braves as it seemed like a different defensive player made a big tackle on every play. The Rebels ran out the clock at the end of the game to gain the Championship.
The Power House Rebels are: Tanner Smith, Derrick Rudde, Logan Webster, Trevor Jones, Bobby Duncan, Brady Young, Kylee Hearne, Dalton Mears, Logan Lowe, Austin Combs, Trevor Lykins, Luke Stover, Carson Williams, Jimmy Wolpert, Tristen House, James Hunter, Michael Wash, and Jace Bruener.
